Three : Exciting new Tariffs

While other network companies such as O2 are contemplating how to either charge or ration data on their own networks, Three UK has dropped this.

The new tariff is actually an update of the firm’s One Plan and now includes 5,000 ‘Three-to-Three’ minutes, 5,000 texts, 2,000 any-network minutes and unlimited data’.

Interestingly, the SIM only monthly costs start from £25 for 12 month contract.

As recently reported, the network companies are struggling to cope with increasing data use. They have asked handset manufacturers to help out with funding but so far this request has been spurned. So, it is rather strange that Three UK is bucking this and offering customers no data usage limits or caps.

Speaking with the Daily Telegraph, Ernest Doku from the price comparison site, uSwitch.com said: “Data has long been offered as a premium service by mobile networks even though Three Mobile Phones have become ever more dependant on this component of a tariff. The One Plan will make it much easier for consumers to make the most of their mobile without the worry of exceeding any fair usage limit.”

Google recently carried out its own survey, and found that although on average the amount of data used is around 450mb per month, this seems to be increasing.

Obviously this relates to Google’s own Android customers; other platforms may be different. That said the trend does seem to be upwards.

Can this move help Three UK though maintain its position?
