Dell Mini 3 - The Answer to Apple and Blackberry

It was sort of an open secret in the tech world that Dell would be releasing a smart phone that would be competing with the iPhones and Blackberries flooding the market. Therefore, no one was surprised when Dell announced that they would soon be launching the Dell Mini 3. No word yet on when its official release be but it would initially be available in China and Brazil only.

Free Dell Mini Laptop With Mobile Phones meaning its mobile operating system is Linux based. According to Wikipedia, "the unveiling of the Android distribution on 5 November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 47 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. Google released most of the Android code under the Apache License, a free software and open source license."

During its launch, 2 carriers were expected to carry the Dell Mini 3. That would be Claro for Brazil and China Mobile for China. It is also mentioned that only the handset going to Brazil will have 3G capabilities. For the Brazilian market, this handset will operate on tri band 850/1900/2100 UMTS/HSDPA. It is also expected to have WIFI B/G capabilities, A-GPS and multi-touch support.

The handsets going to China will only be in 2G but will be using the Chinese-designed Open Mobile System (OMS). There is no word yet if the Dell Mini 3 would reach American shores though some even suggested that with the onslaught of better android based smart phones like Motorola Droid, Samsung Behold III and HTC Droid Eris, it would be smart strategy indeed to launch its android-based mobile phone in a different country.

The American market is already too crowded with a lot of smart phones though Dell itself is not closing the possibility of bringing the Dell Mini 3 in American shores through its tie up with AT&T and Verizon.

And why not have its launch in China, which is considered the most populous nation in the world and its subscriber base is more than double the US market?

There is no word yet on its exact specifications but rumors are ripe that this smart phone will have a 3.5-inch touch screen, a 360 by 640 resolution, a 3.2 mega pixel camera with led flashlight and Bluetooth capabilities. Other features found in this phone are light sensor for adjusting back light, a mini-USB port, microSD card slot and is entirely operating using the touch screen. It also uses 950 mAh battery.

Dell is popularly known as one of the leading manufacturers of desktops and laptops using their own wireless utilities. They also tried their hand in manufacturing other devices like PDAs, cameras and other peripherals though the reception they received were mixed at best.

Mixed reviews were also given for this smart phone as well. With the way, Dell Mini 3 was presented, it has a full range of devices sold in different OS options and configurations. To further whet the appetite of its consumers, Dell refused to give additional information regarding its pricing, availability and other specifications.
